International Hub Proposed for Buckhead Project

Imagine walking cobblestone streets, seeing flags flown of many nations and having your choice of international cuisine. You’re not at Epcot, you’re in Buckhead.

Or at least you could be. The Buckhead Coalition is proposing an International District for the Streets of Buckhead, a stretch of land bordered by Peachtree Street, Piedmont Road and East Wesley Street. Initially the area was slated for upscale retail and dining, but funding has been hard to come by. The proposed International District is met with enthusiasm, but will also need funding.

Atlanta is such a melting pot of different cultures that it only makes sense to have a designated international hub. All of Atlanta’s consulate offices, currently spread around the city, would line the Streets of Buckhead. International restaurants, shops and cultural galleries would provide unique retail and gathering spaces.

One multi-cultural fixture is already near the location: Atlanta International School. The student population represents 91 countries and several Atlanta CEO’s of international companies (such as Coke and UPS) send their children to the school.

We live in a global society; having an international hub will only increase Atlanta’s presence on the world stage.
